Who may use the library?
The library is open to the general public.
In order to borrow books, music and other materials you will need to register as user. Please note that some library services are restricted to residents in Fredensborg Municipality.
How do I register?
You must meet in person in order to register. You will be asked to set up a PIN number when you register.
The PIN number is used when you borrow and return through self-service checkout, when you reserve and renew items, check what items you have borrowed (Borrower status) and when you use other digital facilities in the library.
You are kindly requested to notify the library about change of address, e-mail account, telephone number etc, which can be done at the library or electronically.
Your health insurance card (formerly health security card) is your borrower’s card. You must bring it with you each time you borrow items.
This card is personal and you are responsible for the materials that are borrowed on the card. If you lose your card you must immediately contact the library in order to block the card.
If you are under 15 years of age, you may receive a borrower’s card or use your health insurance card (health security card).
For how long can I borrow library materials?
The standard loan period is one month, while some materials may have a shorter loan period. Please refer to your loan-receipt.
The individual library is entitled to set certain restrictions on an individual user’s total loan allowance, cf. Ministerial order on library activities, Art. 13. (Bekendtgørelse om biblioteksvirksomhed § 13). Borrowing items from the library is free of charge.
How do I return library materials?
You can check when the materials are to be returned on your loan-receipt. You will receive a receipt when you return the items. This is your evidence that the items have been returned.
You can obtain an overview of your current loans, requests and reservations via your library’s homepage (borrower status).
You are obliged to pay a fine, if the loan period has been exceeded. You can check the fines via the library’s homepage and/or on the enclosed list.
How do I renew library materials?
You can renew the materials you have borrowed provided the items have not been reserved by others.
There may be a limit on how many times an item may be renewed. Certain items cannot be renewed.
You can renew your items via your library’s homepage (borrower status), by telephone or in person.
How do you make a reservation?
You can reserve/request materials via your library’s homepage, by telephone or in person.
Your library will notify you by sms, by e-mail or letter, when the item is ready to collect. The library attempts to obtain items that it does not posses through inter-library loan.
Please note that some libraries set a limit on how many reservations you are allowed to make. Some libraries charge a notification fee.
Replacement
If items borrowed by you are lost or damaged, they must be replaced. The library does not assume any responsibility for damages caused to the user’s own equipment by items borrowed from the library.
Exclusion and dismissal
The library is open to the general public. Appropriate conduct is expected, and the staff’s directions must be followed. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from library access for a period of time.
Furthermore you can be excluded from library access if you repeatedly fail to return borrowed materials, if they are returned in a damaged state, or if you have overdue fines of DKK 200 or more. A seven days written notice will be given prior to exclusion. The outstanding accounts can be forwarded to a debt collection firm, cf. Act regarding library services, articles 32 and 33 (Lov om biblioteksvirksomhed §§ 32 and 33)
Data protection policy
The libraries comply with the provisions of the Act on Processing of Personal Data (Persondataloven)
These regulations apply to the libraries of Allerød, Fredensborg, Furesø, Gentofte, Gladsaxe, Hillerød, Hørsholm and Lyngby-Taarbæk municipalities. If you are registered as user in one of these libraries you are automatically registered as user in the other libraries.
